We know it by several such names, the Ragi (Madua) or Mandu. We know it by the name of Ragi or Mandua in India. It is known in Nepal as Kodo. Ragi’s English name is Finger Milets, while Eleusine Coracana is his botanical name. Consider this infamous cereal (Mandu or Ragi) and its enormous health benefits.

Finger millet or Ragi was essentially from Africa and has been farmed in Ethiopia and Uganda for so many years. It was found about 4000 years ago in India and first in the Valley of the Indus River (Harappan civilization). It has since been established and farmed in nearly every corner of India. In India, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Utrakhand, Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Gujrat are grown.

Karnataka is India’s prime production state. It is known as coarse grain, thus its relevance is quite little in urban settings, but it is one of the principal cereals that is available in all houses when you talk about it in rural/village regions. Ragi, mixed with wheat meal, laddu and rice, will be eaten by our beautiful rural people.

There are certain specific proteins such as tryptophan; cysteine and methionine are mostly present in antioxidants that offer our hearts, liver and kidneys healthy and long life. It prevents youngsters from malnutrition if they are routinely ingested with Ragi Flour or any other sort of diet.

Ragi has a rich mineral source

Ragi is the mineral’s most nutritious grain and high in calcium, phosphorus and potassium. Getting such a rich calcium diet becomes really necessary for our bones’ growth and strength. A survey named “Lost Crops of Africa” was undertaken by the United States National Academies, in which Ragi was ranked as superfood. The survey found that Uganda and South Sudan incorporated this grain in their diets, which improved their physical capacity and strength. Since then, Americans have also included finger millets as healthful cereal in their diet.
