5 Products We Discovered After Test-Driving Pinterest’s New Inclusive Beauty Feature

According to a Pinterest study, a whopping 70 percent of people use the site to discover and save everyday looks and styles, and of all the pins that exist, 8 billion of them are hair- and beauty-related. That’s both a gift and a curse. The gift: It’s a never-ending hub of inspiration in all forms; from ways to decorate your first apartment to vintage makeup looks worth re-creating. The curse: That’s a hell of a lot of inspo to sift through, even if you’ve got the time to spare. And when you’re searching for something makeup-specific, it can be extremely difficult to find what works for your skin tone without having to scroll endlessly.

That’s really been the site’s biggest roadblock; as its popularity continues to grow, so does the need to modify search criteria. In fact, it’s a nonnegotiable for anyone with a short attention span and busy schedule. Thankfully, Pinterest pays close attention to what pinners actually want and finally gifted us with a game-changing search tool. Now, whenever you search for products or tutorials, the site automatically asks if you want to narrow down your search by skin tone. The best part is the feature is impossibly easy to use.

Simply do a beauty-related search, and at the top of the results page and under the search bar, you’ll see “some ideas we found in this skin tone range” next to four color wheels that represent light, medium, dark, and deep. After clicking on one of those, your search results are narrowed down even more.

Pinterest Inclusive Search Feature

Pinterest

Now, we’re not saying this new feature is perfection. As we all know, the number of skin tones far exceeds these four options, and the results are still wide-ranging. Also, if you’re looking for product recommendations, you’ll have the most luck searching the more basic options, such as “lipstick,” “foundation,” or “concealer.” We found that as we searched more niche categories, such as “under-eye concealer” and even “sunscreens,” the skin tone bar didn’t show up at all or the options were extremely limited.

Still, we consider this a step in the right direction. Though we sometimes worry that this drive toward inclusivity is just a trend for bigwig companies, we’re glad to see Pinterest joining the movement in an impactful way and hope that over time, this tool will be refined and improved upon. Until then, we’ll be test-driving it. If you’re curious as to whether it delivers or not, here are five products for “dark” skin that we found on the first page of every search:

10 Effective Ways to Lose Upper Arm Fat

10 Effective Ways to Lose Upper Arm Fat

If your flabby arms are holding you back for sleeveless or the slim fit apparel, it is time to ponder about the ways to reduce the extra fat and tone up the muscles of the upper arm.

Though, there are umpteen methods of optimizing your whole body to maintain the ‘fitness’, a combination of physical exercises specific to upper arms, cardiovascular activity, balanced diet and the general lifestyle would bestow you the desired effect.

Check out the effective ways to lose Upper Arm Fat

1. Chkair Dips

With this activity, you can reduce not only the flab of the arms but also of the back muscles.  Keep a 2 feet chair or similar furniture and stand 3 feet away from the chair and place the hands on the chair or the furniture.

By bending your knees and the knees simultaneously, try touching the ground. Come back to the original position. Repeat this activity of 20 reps at least 3 times a day for effective result.

10 Effective Ways to Lose Upper Arm Fat

2. Counter Push Ups

You would observe amazing result with this simple exercise by using a table.  Facing the table, stand at a distance on your toes and rest the hands on the table. By bending the elbows, attempt to touch the table with your face and come back to the normal position. You need to repeat 20 reps of 3 sets each day and the results are worth the efforts.

Counter Push Ups

3. Single Arm ‘Push Up’

Though similar to the push-up exercise, the benefits are enormous and almost double if you follow the regimen regularly.  By positioning yourself in the position of the regular ‘push up’, raise the right arm parallel to the ground ensuring that the torso is also stable without any bend and stay in the position for a few seconds.

Then, you can come back to the original position and repeat the exercise with the other hand.  For more effective result, you can place a water bottle of 500 ml. on the hand and attempt the lateral raise.

Single Arm ‘Push Up’

4. Chest Fly Dumbbells

Use a bench to lie on your back and take the dumb bell of equal weight on each the hands. By raising your arms straight, bring the arms close to each other so that the firsts are parallel to each other.

Now move the arms away from the parallel position stretching both the arms parallel to the ground. More important thing is you should feel mild to moderate stretch in the chest.

Chest Fly Dumbbells

5. Rowing Machine

If you aim to burn about 300 calories in half an hour’s time, this is recommended to everyone. You should ensure that your back is straight and the movement of arms is uniform and at a regular pace during the regimen of about 20 minutes for the ideal result.

6. Dumb bell Punches

Hold a minimum weight of dumbbell in a standing position with a hip width and start punching forward by alternative arms by bending your elbows. You can increase the weight of the dumbbell gradually.

7. Push-Ups

This is a very time-tested exercise for both strengthening and toning up of your upper arm muscles. Though it might be slightly difficult to balance of your hands and knees in contrast with the hands and toes, once you are used to, the benefits are immense.

Push-Ups

8. Scissors Regimen

Another reliable and faster way of losing methods and also one of the oldest methods is the scissors activity. By standing straight, raise your arms up to your shoulder level parallel to the ground. Then, bring back to the front ensuring that the right arm is on the left arm thus bringing an ‘open scissors position’.

Again you need to repeat it with the left hand overlapping on the right hand.  You may continue for three sets of 10 reps on daily basis.

scissors activity

9. Weight Lifting

This is another method by grandpa or grandma for reducing and toning up the arm fat into a shape.  Without straining yourself too much, you can gradually increase the weight on each side of the bar.

 Weight Lifting

10. Arm Dips

Sit on a mat joining the feet and the legs and the knees bent.  Keep the hands behind the hip ensuring that the fingers are facing your hip.

Now, simultaneously straightening the elbows, lift your hip from the ground level.  You can do this by bending one elbow and raise the hip with the help of another arm with a straight elbow.

Though the fat is deposited fast in the areas of upper arms, hip and thighs, it is a matter of complacence that the fat also disappears fast if you can comply with the above scientifically proved exercises.

5 Black Women Share the Wash-Day Routines That Keep Their Hair Healthy

5 Black Women Share the Wash-Day Routines That Keep Their Hair Healthy

Although we have a popular number-letter system for identifying our hair’s texture, the truth is black women more often than not have various textures throughout their hair. For instance, the hairs nearest the nape of my neck are tight and spirally, while the ones in the middle of my head are wavy. Managing various curl patterns at the same time requires a very specific cleansing and styling routine.

And this usually means that what works for one person—even if they share one of your textures—won’t necessarily work for you. So we spend a lot of time trading information and products, hoping that a mix of advice and experimenting will help us land on a wash-day routine that actually works. In an effort to help you with that advice part, five black women with varying curl patterns, including myself, are sharing the wash day routines that keep their hair healthy and in check.

Name: Nikki

Style: Wavy/Curly Pixie

Routine: So, I’m braving the awkward grow-out phase and doing everything I can to ensure my curls remain intact as they get longer. Right now, since my hair is super dry in-between seasons, the L.O.C. (leave-in, oil, cream) method is truly saving my mane. I’m almost always switching out my shampoos and conditioners (nature of my job as a beauty editor), but for the past few months, I’ve been loving Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! Super Moisture Shampoo and Not Your Mother’s Natural Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom Nutrient Rich Butter Masque. The combo of these two has provided the most hydration without weighing my hair down, which is definitely on the finer side.

After that, I’ll spritz my hair with Briogeo’s Strength & Moisture Leave-In Mask and get out the shower. From there, I run a dime-size amount of Mielle Organics Mint Almond Oil through my hair. It smells amazing and includes peppermint oil, too, which really helps with my itchy scalp. Sometimes, I’ll add a little tea tree oil to the mix if it feels extra flaky. Lastly, before wrapping my hair in an Aquis towel, I’ll finger-comb my hair with Creme of Nature’s Pure Honey Moisture Whip Twisting Cream. It’s made with honey, coconut oil and shea butter; all ingredients that keep me moisturized without being too heavy.

Name: Chelsea

Style: Kinky, Coily Afro

Routine: As most naturals, I usually reserve “wash day” for Sunday. I’ll use shampoo on my hair about once every two weeks, so when I do, I use the Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy Extreme Restoration Shampoo followed by the Extreme Restoration Conditioner. My current leave-in conditioner go-to is Shea Moisture’s Curl Stretch Pudding, so I’ll section off my hair and apply it evenly, then just go about my day. The next morning I’ll wet my hair again and style it with Cantu Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream, which is my wash-and-go Holy Grail curly product.

Name: Jasmine

Style: Low-Cut Caesar

Routine: I keep my hair pretty short in a low-cut Caesar, so I maintain my hair by using a mixture of almond, olive, and argan oils with some water and glycerin. It helps keep my scalp protected especially in those NYC winter months. I love using Pantene products to wash and condition my hair.

Wearing a durag at night is extremely essential for me to keep my cut lasting fresh and preventing any harsh pulling I get from the pillow at night. In the summertime, I like to bleach my hair platinum blonde. It’s just more fun! I use Shimmer Lights shampoo to keep the color vibrant. I use the same oiling routine, and for added hydration, I use Pantene’s curling custard to combat the harsh sun rays.

Name: Danielle

Style: Locs

Routine: I’ve had my locs for a little over four years now. On wash day, which is about every two to three weeks, I like to lightly brush them to make sure I’m not washing any dust or lint into my hair. I also spray them with a little water beforehand to prevent breakage. I make sure all the buildup is brushed up so my washing can be more effective. Starting in sections, my choice of shampoo is currently Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap, in Peppermint or Tea Tree. This soap has all natural ingredients and is sulfur-free so that I can wash without leaving behind any residue.

After washing, I dry with a T-shirt wrapped around my head. Once my hair is damp and not soaking wet, I add a mixture of coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba, and Jamaican black castor oil to remoisturize my hair and scalp. To style, I use Cantu Shea Butter Twist & Lock Gel along with my spray bottle of water because you never want to twist dry locs! I sleep with a scarf around my edges and a stocking to keep away anything that could get caught in my hair, and maintain moisture by spritzing with water and massaging in my mixture of oils. I like to use all-natural and unprocessed products in my hair. It helps me keep things simple and make sure my hair has a natural and healthy environment to grow!

Name: Danny

Style: Curly Hair

Routine: I wash my hair with Aesop Calming Champoo and then condition with Aussie Mega Moist Conditioner. I then do a twist-out using Cantu Coconut Curling Cream. Leave it in overnight, and that’s it! When it comes to hair, simpler is better for me.

19 Wedding Hacks to Make Every Bride’s Life Easier

19 Wedding Hacks to Make Every Bride’s Life Easier

Of course you want your wedding to be the best day in the history of time, so obviously any bride-to-be will feel the immense pressure to make it perfect—but that doesn’t mean it has to be super stressful. With the right hacks and wedding planning tips, your day will be smooth sailing. Promise.

Instead of spending your day worrying if the guests are happy, if your caterer got there on time, or if your heels are going to sink into the ground and make you trip on your walk down the aisle, you should be thinking about how happy your life will be, and that you’ll get to spend the entire night eating great food, dancing, and toasting with family and friends. And with our roundup of useful little tidbits, this dream can absolutely become a reality.

To make your life easier, we’ve gathered some of the most useful and practical wedding hacks that every bride should take into consideration.

1. Having an outdoor wedding? Use perfume that doubles as insect repellant (it exists!), such as Aromaflage. The bugs will stay away, and you’ll smell amazing throughout the event. Victoria’s Secret Bombshell perfume is also a mosquito repellent.

2. Instead of licking envelopes, use a glue stick—no paper cuts or gross aftertaste.

3. Use high heel attachments to keep you from sinking into grass during an outdoor wedding. There’s nothing worse than a wobbly walk down the aisle. While you’re at it, put a basket out for your guests.

4. For an outdoor summer wedding, use popsicle sticks to make programs that double as fans so guests can keep cool while you’re saying your vows.

5. Use glass cloches to keep bugs out of food.

6. Most wedding shoes are brand-new, so rub the bottom with sandpaper before wearing to de-slick the soles.

7. Have guests write their addresses on postcards. You’ll save money on postage and time writing addresses for “thank you” notes. Win-win!

8. Stash your lipstick under your napkin at your table—that way you can apply without having to go back to the bridal suite.

9. Stay away from dairy—a natural inflammatory—for three days leading up to wedding to de-bloat naturally.

10. Keep your veil in place with magnetic veil weights—especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding on a windy day.

11. Need to provide your own ceremony seating? Call local businesses with seating (like a funeral home) to see if they’d lend out their chairs before calling rental companies.

12. Consider using your venue’s sound system to play music from an iPod or your computer for the ceremony and cocktail hour—it’ll save tons of cash. Why not spend on the music during the reception instead, when people will actually be dancing, rather than listening or mingling?

tulipinia vintage vases floral arrangement 19 Wedding Hacks to Make Every Brides Life Easier

Photo: Tulipina

13. When it comes to table arrangements, check out flea markets for vintage vases instead of spending extra cash on floral arrangement vases from the florist.

14. For a modern touch, opt for food trucks at your wedding to save money on catering.

15. Have your bridesmaids rent their dresses from an online retailer like Rent the Runway—especially because they’ll likely only wear the dress once.

16. Invest in a personalized stamp with you and your hubby-to-be’s names and address on it—a “thank you” note time-saver!

17. Have your photographer only photograph the ceremony to save cash, and rely on friends’ photos for the reception (extra points if you create a hashtag, which will function as a real-time wedding album).

18. To save some money, have two cakes: a two- or three-tier cake strictly for displaying and cutting, and a sheet cake hidden in the kitchen for your guests.

19. Write a tiny number on the back of all your RSVP cards—and number the guest list accordingly. This’ll save you so much time, especially if the name is illegible when you get the card back.

8 Compelling Ways to Stop Procrastinating Instantly

8 Compelling Ways to Stop Procrastinating Instantly

When you sit down to finish a task, is your mind wandering or thinking to do some other random activity?   You are only a halfway done with your job, and suddenly you become completely immersed in the Facebook or any online video – Does this happen to you frequently? -Then it is procrastination and there are several ways to stop procrastinating.

For those, who are unaware of the word “Procrastinating” – It means an act of postponing or delaying the tasks deliberately.

No matter whether it is in professional life or personal life, procrastination is good only until you can accomplish things on time or you have a genuine reason to do so. Otherwise, it has a potential to affect your life adversely. Procrastinating tasks regularly induces fear factor and complacency with whatever tasks you pick up in your life. It escapes merely the valuable time, opportunities and quality out of your life. It is good to be complacent but not always. Living a “Take it easy” life and hurrying up to accomplish the critical tasks at the last minute is also a form of procrastination.

However, it is a fact that procrastinating is an inherent human characteristic and every human is a procrastinator. It is normal for anyone to delay the things impulsively at some or the other point in time in the journey of his/her life.

Also, there are a lot of people who always worry about the procrastination. They feel guilty and anxious about it being a habit. Does procrastination cause stress in you?

If you are a person who realizes it and if you desire to change your procrastinating behavior, then you must try the following list of compelling ways to stop procrastinating instantly –

#1 Understand your mind

Before you apply any of the techniques to prevent procrastination, understand your thoughts. Understand yourself as to what is making you to delay the work. Identify the problems by answering following questions, which are usually the causes of procrastination.

  • Is it the lack of interest to do the task/work
  • Are you complaining about the lack of time
  • Is it fear to proceed with the work or fear to do hard work
  • Is it the lack of knowledge or skills
  • Is it lack of attention or concentration skills
  • Do you have a genuine reason
  • Are you taking things for granted
  • Is it due to any behavioral or emotional setback
  • Is the task not rewarding and making you unhappy
  • Is your mind thinking of or flickering to several other activities

Once you find the answer about what exactly is the problem that is causing the procrastination, try to focus on finding the solution of the problem.

  • If the problem is lack of knowledge – then find a way to learn the essential skills – use the internet or join any educational institution for obtaining the information
  • If it is time – then find a way out to sort things out and make some time – maybe during the weekend or a specific time on a weekday or late nights to accomplish the particular delayed task
  • If you are taking things for granted- then realize that “Time and Tide wait for none,” and it doesn’t take much time to see the change in the feelings of the people. E.g., Your friendly boss might suddenly scorch at you regarding the unaccomplished work and might develop negative feelings towards you.

Hence, it is necessary to understand yourself. Ask yourself as many relevant questions as possible. Seek the answer. Amend or sort out things of your life accordingly to avoid the procrastination.

Ways to stop procrastinating - concentrate

#2 Reward yourself for every accomplished task

Most of the times, procrastination has always been about the starting problem to initiate the work. Whenever you feel unhappy or feel burdened to start the given task on time, then instead of finding reasons to postpone it and thinking cynical about it, try to take the responsibility positively.

Develop a positive perspective on the work. You can start by dividing the entire work into smaller numbered tasks like task1 or task2 etc. After accomplishing task1 of the work, reward yourself with a coffee break. Don’t stop there. After having a replenishing coffee, you can start again with task2 of the work, without keeping it aside. After finishing the task2, reward yourself with a quick, exciting chat with your best friend. And so on.

This technique would not only help you develop an interest towards the work to finish all the given tasks well within time but also at the end of each of them, you will see yourself happy and moving.

Ways to stop procrastinating - Reward Yourself

#3 Use “ONLY DO” strategy

  • ‘Only watch,’ your favorite TV shows, when you are having dinner at home
  • ‘Only listen’ your favorite music, when you are doing household chores
  • ‘Only eat’ at your favorite restaurant, when you plan going out with your office colleagues as a part of a monthly outing
  • ‘Only Do’ listen to morning prayers or yoga lessons or business audiobooks, when you are jogging or exercising
  • ‘Only Do’ play with your pet, when you are gardening

Set a suitable “Only Do” strategy and follow it strictly to see a drastic change in your procrastinating behavior. This strategy depends on the workload and the circumstances around you.

Ways to stop procrastinating - Only Do Things That You Want To

#4 Make-up immediately for the procrastinated work

You can’t change the procrastinating behavior overnight. A change comes only after conditioning your mind to stay attentive. So, in between or now and then, you might find yourself missing out on the simple goals to finish the tasks. Other genuine reasons that aid the procrastination could be – you falling sick or a sudden computer crash etc. So, once you miss out on a task, then immediately put some effort on the task to compensate the lost time. Try to figure out on the things that might help you to get back on track immediately.

Ways to stop procrastinating - Make Up for Lost Time

#5 Attitude of “Do It Now or Never “

There are two types of thoughts that your brain generates at a time. One kind of thought is the truth from your inner-self, and the other thought is a creepy monkey thought that makes your mind wander. If you have a problem listening to your inner-self and if you are following the flickering creepy monkey thoughts then you should probably exercise yourself with the saying – “Do it now or never.”

Whenever you are bogged down by the creepy monkey thoughts, then keep saying – “Do it now or never” as repetitively as possible. This repetitive utterance will help you to listen to your inner-self. It will let your attention stay focused on the task at hand. These words are so powerful that it conquers the wandering thoughts. Try uttering “Do it now or never” as often as possible as they will soon become your thoughts and over time you will develop an attitude of “Do It Now or Never.“

Ways to stop procrastinating - Do it now

#6 Avoid External Distractions

To try avoiding the external distractions, you can confide to a particular place in your home or at the workplace. Schedule a fixed time and lock yourself up in a particularly convenient location for specific hours of time. Don’t do any other chores or don’t attend any phone calls or messages during this time. Stay committed to the fixed schedule of work. It is one of the tips to stop procrastinating which probably forces your mind to stay attentive, at least till you finish your task at hand, by compulsion and not by choice.

#7 Make a list of responsibilities

Make a list of jobs that are pending in a diary. Organize them in the order of importance. Try picking on doing just one task at a time. Pick any of the strategies mentioned above and apply them to the task at hand. If you have a starting problem, then start by setting a time goal of 30 minutes to finish a specific job. Then, continue the same method for rest of your work, until you feel exhausted for the day. Repeat this method every day.

Ways to stop procrastinating - Create a task list

#8 Overcome the fear

Imagination plays the most significant part in motivating the inner fear. If you fear the consequences associated with the task you’ve been delaying or avoiding for most of the time, then imagine the worst case and the best case that could happen with the delivery of the task.

The worst thing that could happen if you don’t finish on time could be either a minor setback or significant damage. The best thing could happen – you would develop a positive attitude towards work, peers and the boss. You can also expect a salary hike or a promotion.

Thinking of the worst case or the best case consequences sets the target to achieve. Keeping this target in mind helps you to not only get rid of the anxiety, self-doubt or pressure but also lifts up your confidence level in finishing the tasks promptly and efficiently.

Ways to Stop Procastinating - Overcome Fear

It is often challenging to adopt the ways to stop procrastinating. However, trying is the key. Keep working without giving up. Don’t delay the tasks or extend them unnecessarily. It is not obligatory that you should end up with the perfect. What matters is the quality of work that you do within a stipulated schedule well before the deadlines. See that you don’t pile up things. Start little by little, instead of not at all doing the tasks altogether. Learn to value the “TIME.”

Macadamia nuts are not only delicious and good for your health but the macadamia oil that is made from them can benefit your hair and scalp. It can help hair grow in fuller and lusher, and even provide reparative properties for people who are suffering hair loss.

Many people buy prescription shampoos to help restore hair growth, but often natural ingredients contain the same compounds, vitamins, and minerals as your doctor-prescribed elixirs.

Is Macadamia Oil Sourced from Nuts?

Macadamia nuts are round yellow nuts with a hard globular brown shell. These nuts are found on the macadamia nut tree, also known as Macadamia ternifolia, which is mostly found in Hawaii. If you’ve ever visited Hawaii, you’ll see the nuts sold everywhere, and usually for much cheaper prices than buying from your local grocery store. Besides Hawaii, the nut is also grown extensively throughout Australia.

These nuts are perhaps some of the most expensive nuts you can buy on the market today. The oil is made directly from the nuts. The nuts are allowed to fully ripen, and are allowed to drop from the tree before being collected. The hulls are removed before the oil is cold-pressed from the nuts.

The oil that is squeezed out is a pale yellow to colourless type of vegetable oil. It undergoes a short refining process to purify it for the market. This oil has a very light and non-greasy feel to it. It nicely absorbs into the skin, hair, and hair follicles.

Like the nut, the oil has a slightly earthy, sweet, nutty taste to it that is appealing to most people.

What Makes Macadamia Oil an Effective Hair Repair Oil?

Besides its light smell that quickly dissipates after you apply it to your hair or scalp, it makes an effective hair repair oil for many reasons. This oil has one of the highest amounts of essential fatty acids. The most beneficial types of fatty acids are linoleic, oleic, palmitic, palmitoleic, and stearic acids.

Macadamia oil also contains several minerals, including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and sodium.

Together, all these nutrients provide benefits to help your hair to look better. When applied to the scalp it provides restorative properties to skin and the hair follicles.

Often hair can become damaged over time with excessive use of hair spray, hair styling products, and hair dyes that can weigh down hair and cause it to break. Environmental factors can even play a role, such as pollution, extreme cold or hot weather. Changing hormones and aging can also cause hair loss. Macadamia oil can help repair the damage caused by all these factors in your life.

Macadamia oil also contains squalene, which is a natural antioxidant. This content will help to reduce the oxidative stress on hair and scalp by preventing the loss of moisture from both.

Macadamia oil is one of the favourite oils for men and women to help them look after their hair due to its emollient properties, high fatty acids, and nutrient content.

Useful Benefits of Macadamia Oil for Hair

Macadamia oil is hydrating for your hair. Its nutritional content will also provide reconstructive properties for your hair.

Since the oil has a light and non-greasy texture to it, it’s suitable for using as a hair styling product instead of gels, hairsprays, or foams. It can even be rubbed into the scalp and left there during the day, as there won’t be any embarrassing greasy look to your hair. Many people who have allergies to scents and fragrances may also appreciate using Macadamia oil on their hair due to a decreased risk of allergic reactions—sneezing, watery eyes, or stuffy nose.

If you have an itchy dry scalp, or bad flakes from a dandruff condition, you can rub some of the oil into your scalp to provide soothing comfort, and to prevent flaking during the day.

The oil can be used in the evening as a hair restorative. A larger amount of the oil can be applied to the scalp or near the hair follicles, to help provide healing properties to encourage hair to grow in thicker and fuller.

Some people have flyaway hair that is difficult to keep in place. A few drops of the oil can help to provide moisture, instead of weighing down hair with a conditioner. The oil will help to keep your hair looking neat and tidy.

Some people have thick crinkly hair that can be difficult to style. The oil can provide emollient properties to help naturally straighten their hair without having to use hot hair straightening tools.

The combined properties of its fatty acids will help to add shine, strengthen, and nourish your hair follicles. Overall, the oil will help to fight off hair loss and brittle strands.

The oil is also good for adding some shine to dull hair. Its emollient properties will help to keep your hair from tangling up too. The oil is nice and lightweight, so there are no fears your hair will become weighed down.

The oil’s fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants are also good for fighting off the aging process that can occur on the scalp. It can help to prevent thinning hair, hair loss, and grey hair.

Simplest Way to Apply Macadamia Oil to Hair

Before choosing the proper method to apply Macadamia oil to your hair you’ll need to consider its purpose.

If you’re applying the oil to smooth out split ends or frizzy hair, simply apply a few drops to the palms of the hands, rub together, and apply to your hair. Give your hair a good brushing after application. You don’t even need to wash your hands afterwards, as the oil is light and can also provide hydration for them too.

Use only one or two drops for a styling aid for your hair, if you wish to keep it up in a bun, or in a ponytail.

If you wish to use the oil to help an itchy, dry, or flaking scalp, you can apply a few drops to your fingertips and then onto your scalp.

If you wish to obtain the maximum beneficial healing properties from the oil, do your application prior to bedtime. Pour 10 ml of the oil into the palms of your hands, rub your palms together, then apply directly to your scalp. Ensure you cover your entire scalp with the oil, rubbing it in well to help it penetrate your hairs’ follicles. You’ll either need to cover with a plastic cap, or place a clean towel on your pillow to keep the oil from getting over your bed. In the morning, simply wash your hair normally. There is no need to apply conditioner due to the emollience of the macadamia oil.

Repeat your hair mask treatments once a night for up to seven weeks, to allow your scalp and hair follicles to regenerate and grow in newer, lusher hair.

What Other Health Benefits to Expect from Macadamia Oil?

Macadamia nut oil can also be used in cooking, or even taken as a supplement. Besides providing essential fatty acids to help the body actually grow skin cells and hair, it has other great benefits too.

The oil will help to promote a healthy heart and provide energy to the body. The oil is also good for the eyes, the skin, and good overall health.

The most traditional uses for macadamia oil in history have been to treat chapped lips, scars, and stretch marks. The oil helps to lower inflammation and itchiness. The oil is also good for the digestive system and to keep bowel movements regular. The oil has beneficial properties to help slow down aging of the skin. It can also be used to help treat minor wounds, and heal up scars.

How to Choose the Best Quality Macadamia Oil?

If you’re ready to try macadamia oil to help benefit your scalp and hair then you’re probably curious about how to buy the best quality oil. Just like with any other beauty care product, quality can vary. Often there are few controls in place for non-pharmaceutical products. Even if the bottle says “Macadamia Oil” on it, ensure that macadamia oil is actually the main ingredient, and that the oil isn’t some other type made to mimic macadamia oil.

Besides ensuring your macadamia oil really contains macadamia oil, you’ll also want to ensure that it’s the only ingredient. Even if your oil contains macadamia oil, it can still be mixed with other types of cheaper oils, such as jojoba oil, almond oil, or vegetable oils. Since you’re specifically wanting to buy macadamia oil for its healing and softening properties for your hair, it’s important to ensure that the container only contains the oil you’re expecting.

best quality macadamia oil

Macadamia oil should be cold-pressed in order for it to retain its beneficial properties. While heat-pressed macadamia oil isn’t common, it’s still important to be aware of when a manufacturer might try to cheapen it’s production line and do it.

You may also wish to decide if organic macadamia oil is right for you. Any product bearing the organic label will cost more, as the oil is sourced from specific community growers with smaller groves of trees. They use only the safest and natural methods to manage pests in the groves. (ie. no Roundup pesticide!) The oil is guaranteed to be cold-pressed.

You may also wish to search for a “Not tested on animals” label. While macadamia oil shouldn’t need to be tested on animals as it’s a natural product, a manufacturer has to face stringent guidelines on all its products in order to use that label. If it’s important to you, then check for that bunny logo.

Where to Buy High-Quality Macadamia Oil?

Macadamia oil isn’t something you purchase from your grocery store’s vegetable oil section. If you’re searching for it, look in the pharmacy part of the store. It should be near the lavender or the peppermint oils.

If you can’t find the oil in your local pharmacy, big box store, or grocery store, consider searching for it at local vitamin, supplement, or health product shops.

Your third option will be to shop for the oil online. Once you’ve searched around and read online product literature, you can check the reviews just to ensure that the macadamia oil manufacturer is a good one.

Once you’ve found a great source for macadamia oil then you’ll want to make a bookmark on your computer so you can return whenever you need to stock up on more macadamia oil to benefit your hair.

Precautions When Using Macadamia Oil on Your Hair

Just like with any type of product that you’d ingest or put on your skin, you’ll want to use some precautions before using it.

  • If you have allergies to other types of nuts then first do a skin test on your inner wrist or neck before using. Discontinue use if you get a rash or hives at any time.
  • If you’re ingesting the oil as a health supplement or in cooking, you can gain weight.
  • While some people with dermatitis or skin conditions, other than dandruff or fungal, may be tempted to try it, there are better treatments for those purposes.
  • Use the oil in limited quantities. You only need a small amount anyway.

Final Thoughts on How Macadamia Oil Can Improve Hair

Macadamia oil can help improve your hair in a variety of different ways. It can be applied in many different ways to help improve scalp and hair follicles, your hair strands, and right down to the tips. Macadamia oil will help to correct hair loss or damage from chemicals or dyes.

Macadamia oil also provides a natural way to help style hair, rather than using hair sprays, gels, or foams that are full of fragrances that can give people allergies.

A small bottle of macadamia oil will last a long time. Once you start using it on your hair, you’ll soon think up many other uses for it to benefit your hair and skin.

How to Use Pineapple for Skin Whitening – 7 Methods

How to Use Pineapple for Skin Whitening – 7 Methods

It’s common, everyone in this world desire to have gorgeous skin, but beauty products aren’t the way to achieve them. Instead they can ruin your dream and leave your sensitive skin with fine lines. (1)

The reason I choose pineapple for skin whitening is not because of its delicious taste, but due to assorted properties residing in them which can bring back the lost radiant effect on your face.

Before we dwell about the nutritional benefits of this rough skinned fruit, let me pull few more lines to table sorry tablet. 😉

People in this generation are practicing a very unhealthy lifestyle (including me).

Apart from alarming pollution, you’re surrounded by technical gadgets that force you to sit at one place. Studies back my claim; repeated use of Smartphone can develop wrinkles, dark circles and acne in most people. (2)

Hope you got my point.

So to remove pollutants and stop dark spots on your skin you need an effective remedy. And am sure you can’t get this with chemical filled creams. Natural remedies like pineapple are filled with nutrients that can cleanse and fill your skin with essential vitamins.

Is Pineapple Good for Skin Lightening?

Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6, Vitamin C, manganese, copper, folate and other nutrients are housed in this tropical fruit.

  • Cleansing activity of pineapple face scrub will remove impurities from the skin.
  • Repeated use of its juice can lighten your skin and fade dark spots.
  • At the same time it hydrates dry and dull skin with its moisturizing activity.
  • Alpha-hydroxy acids residing in pineapple juice can reduce aging wrinkles.
  • Antioxidants housed in this face mask thwart free radicals that can damage cell membrane.
  • Vitamin C stimulates collagen production and enhances elasticity of the skin.
  • Acne scars and other marks on the skin can be reduced by potassium and vitamin C of this face mask.
  • Assorted nutrients in the fruit help to promote skin metabolism.
  • Pineapple fruit contains an enzyme that can effectively remove accumulated dirt and lighten the appearance of scars.
  • You can use its juice to smoothen cracked feet and to obtain beautiful nails.

How to Use Pineapple for Skin Whitening?

Interesting thing about natural remedies is that you can blend other ingredients with them to make it more effective. You can blend honey, gram flour, green tea, cucumber, papaya, coconut milk and olive oil to pineapple face mask.

#1 Honey, Pineapple and Olive Oil

Essential nutrients in raw honey and olive oil both combine to cleanse impurities, promote cell regeneration and improve your skin complexion.

Humectant abilities packed in these ingredients help to lock moisture on your skin.

  • Initially wash your face with water or cleanse it using gram flour mask.
  • Peel the rough skin over pineapple and make it into small pieces to mash it.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey and 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to it.
  • Mix thoroughly and apply it over prewashed face.
  • Leave it for about 15-20 minutes and rinse it off.

Optionally, massage your face with natural moisturizer like rosewater or jojoba oil.

#2 Coconut Milk and Pineapple Pulp for Skin Whitening

  • Mash required amount of pineapple in a bowl and add 1 cup of coconut milk to it.
  • Using cotton ball apply this face mask on the skin.
  • Let it dry.
  • Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Repeat the process for about twice in a week.

#3 Pineapple and Gram Flour

Gram flour is my favorite home remedy to remove impurities. For years it has been used to keep the skin radiant and reduce dark spots.

Both pineapple and gram flour will help to remove dead cells, pollutants and dirt piled over the skin. If you don’t remove these impurities, they accumulate to form dark patches at different places on the skin.

  • Peel fresh pineapple and slice them into small pieces.
  • Blend them to create smooth paste.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons of gram flour to the pulp thoroughly.
  • Apply this thick paste on the skin and leave it to dry.
  • Rinse it off with water or wipe with wet cloth.

#4 Pineapple Slice

If you’re too lazy to blend other ingredients to pineapple, you can still benefit from this fruit by rubbing its slice on your face.

Vitamins and minerals housed in this fruit can effectively treat skin ailments like acne and lighten the appearance of dark spots.

  • Peel a fresh pineapple and wash it.
  • Cut into thick slice and start rubbing on your face.
  • Be gentle while rubbing it on your sensitive skin.
  • Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with water.

#5 Egg White, Pineapple and Honey

Egg white is known to remove impurities and promote collagen production. Vitamin C residing in this home available ingredient can reduce wrinkles and lighten your skin.

  • Take 1 egg white in a bowl.
  • Add 3 slices of peeled pineapple and add 1 tbsp of honey to it.
  • Blend it to smooth paste and apply it on your prewashed face.
  • Allow it to dry naturally for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with water.

Papain is an enzyme residing in papaya that exhibits beauty benefits. It reduce dark complexion, treat ailments, encourage formation of elastin and make the skin supple.

  • Grind 3 slices of papaya with 2 slices of pineapple.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to the paste and mix thoroughly.
  • Wash your face and apply the obtained face mask evenly on your skin.
  • Allow it to dry naturally for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with water.

#7 Turmeric and Pineapple

Curcumin is an active component in turmeric that has ability to make your skin supple and lighten your skin.

  • Extract juice from pineapple pulp by adding required amount of milk or water.
  • Now, add a pinch of turmeric powder to the bowl of pineapple juice.
  • Stir thoroughly and apply it on your skin using a cotton ball.
  • Let it dry for 20 minutes and then wash it off with water.

Tips that You Shouldn’t Ignore

List of recipes is endless.

Choose one recipe and stick to it for 2-3 weeks to see positive results.

Apart from applying these innate ingredients, you must ingest vitamin rich diet and drink enough water to obtain radiant skin.

Excess use of beauty creams may irritate your skin and even strip moisture from the face. So avoid excess use of chemical incorporated products.

Avoid spending long hours before computer or smart gadgets, it can damage your sensitive skin.

There are studies that claim that stress can trigger skin ailments. So, avoid it and stay peace and beautiful.

15 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism Without Any Exercise

15 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism Without Any Exercise

We won’t deny that making fitness part of your routine is incredibly important for health and wellness, but sometimes working out everyday just doesn’t, well, work out. The good news is there are countless other habits you can embrace —from how you work to what you eat—that can boost your metabolism and kickstart your weight loss 24 hours a day.

Yes, you read that right: You can boost your metabolism without exercise. Here’s how, according to experts.

1. Drink Two Glasses of Ice Water as Soon as You Wake Up

The water itself jump-starts your body from sleep mode into awake mode, while the coolness of the water starts shunting water from the internal organs to the peripheral muscles. “That gets your blood pumping and flowing, which boosts your metabolism 1 to 2 percent,” says Kian Ameli, owner of the Concord, California location of Momentum Fitness.

Water is the single most important thing our bodies need to sustain good health and wellness, but so many of us walk around mildly dehydrated every day.

“Our bodies will become metabolically sluggish without getting the water they need,” says Deborah Orlick Levy, M.S., R.D. and Carrington Farms health and nutrition consultant. In fact, “German researchers found that drinking six cups or 48 ounces of very cold water a day requires the body to expend more calories in trying to warm the water to body temperature. This can result in an increase in resting metabolism by 50 calories a day,” Levy says.

This may not seem like much, but if you do this every day for a year, you can lose up to five pounds just by making this change alone.

2. Get a Standing Desk

You can also just put your laptop on a high table if a standing desk isn’t practical.

“The requirements of standing versus sitting are profound, because while we are sitting, we don’t have to use any muscles. Standing does not need to be done all day either—one to two-hour standing sessions can boost your metabolism,” says Ameli.

3. Try “Contrast” Showers

A contrast shower is one where you start off with warm water for two to three minutes, then change the water temperature to cool for 30 to 45 seconds.

“While this may sound slightly unpleasant,” and yes, it very well may be, “the contrast shower will relax blood vessels during the warm phase and contract them during the cool phase,” says Ameli. This has a major impact on your body’s circulatory system, as well as having a relaxing effect on our fight-or-flight reflexes. The latter helps us sleep deeper, and better sleep leads to improved energy throughout the day and increased metabolism.

4. Check Your Sleep Schedule

Getting enough sleep and adopting a consistent sleep schedule can help improve your metabolism.

“The body is a machine and needs efficient rest to reboot. Sleep is the best way to look and feel better from the inside out,” says Shanna Israel, lifestyle and wellness expert and CEO of Vertical Wellness.

5. Try Intermittent Fasting

It sounds crazy, but you may want to try an eating schedule where you eat all of your meals in a short period of time and fast during the rest of the day. “I have my clients finish eating dinner at 6 p.m. and drink water for the remainder of the evening. They wake up, drink cold water, and skip breakfast. The eating phase begins at lunch time. It takes a while to get used to this, but you will see great results,” says Dr. Rawle Shewprashad, a personal trainer.

6. Eat Spicy Foods

Hot peppers have been linked to reducing obesity and related disorders because they increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation by increasing the metabolism. Cayenne pepper, for example, improves digestion, blood circulation, and increases energy levels.

“This precious pepper creates heat in the digestive tract that helps your body store food more effectively, improving digestion and aiding in feelings of satisfaction,”says Carina Sohaili, board certified celebrity nutrition and health counselor and creator of Vibrant Healthy Life. “Cayenne pepper also contains high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A, and essential minerals.” Add cayenne pepper to your salads, soups, and meals for a zesty kick and huge health benefits.

7. Eat Celery

It’s been said it takes more calories to digest celery than celery actually contains. For example, a stalk of celery contains six calories, but takes seven calories for your body to process it, making it a “negative calorie” food. This isn’t 100 percent proven, however, and many claim it’s outright false. In any case, celery is still a healthy food worth eating.

8. Cook with Coconut Oil

The benefits of coconut oil range from a useful moisturizer to promoting oral health and everything in-between. But can it boost metabolic rate? The answer seems to be yes.

“Ideally, choose extra virgin coconut oil to ensure you are consuming the purest form of the oil with all of its natural benefits,” says Levy. “Coconut oil is comprised of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that are easy to digest and quickly absorbed into the body to be used for energy and not stored as fat.”

“On the contrary,” she explains, “vegetable oils are comprised of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) which have longer chains linked together and require the help of liver enzymes for digestion.”

9. Use Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a great natural metabolism-boosting spice.

“I carry a small container of cinnamon in my purse and sprinkle it on everything,” says Sohaili. “This saucy spice is great for stabilizing energy levels because it does not spike your blood sugar. Cinnamon also helps with stomach cramps and nausea.”

Get in the habit of sprinkling some in your morning coffee or tea, on your whole wheat toast, or on your afternoon snack.

10. Eat Garlic

Hello, fat-burning, metabolism-boosting nutrition powerhouse! Garlic is great for lowering blood glucose levels. It also helps to curb cravings for unhealthy foods. Garlic also builds up your immune system, and helps dissolve blood clots.

“Another added bonus is that it is packed with a powerful antioxidant that has been proven to help fight off infectious diseases,” says Sohaili.

11. Eat Grapefruit

Not only does grapefruit contain an enzyme that aids in burning fat, but it’s also a great source of vitamin C and vitamin A, two vitamins that have been proven to contribute to clear skin, a more even complexion, and a reduction in dark circles under your eyes.

“It’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up when you’re losing focus and hanger (hunger-anger) starts to kick in,” says Sohaili.

Grapefruit is also fantastic for digestion; it helps the body break down protein in order to be used more efficiently. Need an easy grapefruit recipe? Try a simple baked spice grapefruit. Sprinkle half of a medium grapefruit with cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/2 tablespoon of stevia (an all-natural sweetener that does not spike your blood sugar levels). Bake for five minutes at 375 F until the top is a golden-brown.

12. Consume High-Fiber Foods

These require the body to work extra hard in the process of digestion, while low fiber foods are digested easily without much effort.

“This occurs because fiber is indigestible and, although it is futile, the body expends great effort to try to break it down. This results in increased caloric burn from the process,” says Levy.

Choose wild rice (which has nearly twice the amount of fiber per serving than brown rice), whole wheat pasta, and legumes to get a high-fiber fix.

13. Drink Green Tea

Green tea contains many healthy nutrients and is credited with boosting metabolic rate.

“Clinical studies suggest that catechins in green tea are responsible for speeding up metabolism and weight loss,” Levy says. “Researchers believe five eight-ounce cups a day may increase caloric burn by 90 calories.”

Sound hard to do? If you drink two cups in the morning, you can get the benefits of both the catechins and caffeine to maximize metabolic boost. (Caffeine is also believed to boost metabolic rate.) Then, add brewed decaf iced green tea to drink throughout the day to get the additional thermogenic effect from the very cold water, maximizing your metabolic output. It’s that simple.

14. Eat Plain, All-Natural Greek Yogurt

Protein and calcium are nutrients that do wonders for metabolism. “Greek yogurt contains double the amount of protein than normal yogurt, and is a great source of calcium,” says Sohaili.

Try a chunky pineapple cream cup: Combine 1/2 cup of plain non-fat Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of pineapple and 1 tablespoon of stevia for a refreshing afternoon snack.

15. Eat Salmon

Salmon is a great lean protein source and metabolism booster.

“Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat that the body does not produce on its own. Omega-3 fatty acids decrease the risk of heart disease, irregular heartbeats, and help lower blood pressure levels,” says Sohaili. “These healthy fats also increase your ability to focus and improve your mood.”

Try a steamed salmon entrée for dinner, a couple of brown rice salmon rolls, or salmon seaweed wraps: Roll three ounces of smoked salmon (wild-caught Alaskan is best) in a couple of sheets of seaweed (which you can buy at any local market).

The Top BB Creams for Every Skin Type and Concern

The Top BB Creams for Every Skin Type and Concern

If you haven’t used BB creams yet, you’re in for a real treat. First off, these tinted moisturizers are different than foundation in that they’re a bit more lightweight—but they still build like a foundation. A little cream goes a long way in terms of helping you look completely put together on a busy day, giving you near-perfect complexion. Plus, they can even last through the summer heat.

Oh, and we didn’t even mention the best part: BB creams have plenty of skincare benefits. Depending on the product, BB creams contain anti-aging components (including peptides and antioxidants, such as vitamins A, E, and C), hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which moisturize your face, ingredients like licorice and arbutin that help even out skin tone, and silicone-based ingredients, such as dimethicone, that help smooth the skin.

But these moisturizer/foundation/SPF hybrids, with their laundry lists of features, can also be incredibly confusing. Do they work for every skin tone? What’s the best BB cream for oily skin? We tested a full lineup to bring you the very best BB creams.

BB Creams: The Facts You Didn’t Know

It’s not easily definable: Unfortunately, the term “BB cream” is pretty nebulous and encompasses a wide range of products. BB creams originated in Germany and exploded in Korea, where they were first used by laser treatment patients to ease post-procedure redness. But now that beauty consumers have embraced BBs, new formulas span a range of shades, textures and skincare benefits.

Not one shade fits all: Despite what some packages claim, we found a wide range of colors, and they don’t all work with every skin tone. You may need to test a few formulas before you find a match.

BBs are best applied with a brush: Just like any complexion makeup, the key to making these tinted balms work is to blend, blend and blend some more. A foundation brush (or a sponge like the Beauty Blender) does the job better than fingers.

Layering brings the best results: Though some BB creams aim to replace your entire arsenal of face products, that’s not always realistic. If your skin is extra-dry, you’ll want to prep with moisturizer so your BBs pigment doesn’t stick to dry spots. Also, since most BBs have light to medium coverage, you’ll probably still need concealer for under-eye circles, blemishes, and other discolorations.

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Olay Total Effects CC Cream Tone Correcting Face Moisturizer with SPF 15

Most lightweight: Olay Total Effects CC Cream Tone Correcting Face Moisturizer with SPF 15

Olay calls this product a CC cream, the “color correction”-focused sequel to BBs, but the idea is the same. The swirled, dual-phase formula is ultra-light, so it might not replace your foundation. It does give skin a subtle, luminous glow with sheer coverage, and the neutral-toned fair-to-light shade was a favorite among our pale-skinned testers who found other BBs too dark.

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

Best for sensitive skin: Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

This cream comes in one universal shade and acts as a moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum. This product’s great for sensitive skin.

$39 at Sephora

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector

Best for dark skin (and medium and light): Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector

This sheer fluid has a smooth texture that makes blending easy, and the line features one of the darkest BB creams of any we tried. The Deep shade has a warm, caramel tint that helps counteract gray or sallow tones on darker complexions. And with five shades spanning the color range, light to medium skin tones will find a match, too.

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Garnier 5-in-1 Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream Anti-Aging (Light/Medium)

Smoothest texture: Garnier 5-in-1 Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream Anti-Aging (Light/Medium)

The first drugstore BB to launch in the U.S., Garnier’s version has enough coverage to stand in for foundation, and its slightly peachy tone makes skin look sun-kissed. But the biggest draw is its silky-smooth texture that blends flawlessly and blurs away pores.

$12.99 at Garnier

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Dior Hydra Life BB Creme SPF 30

Best for full coverage: Dior Hydra Life BB Creme SPF 30

Dior’s BB cream was the most pigmented of any we sampled and the closest stand-in for full coverage foundation. Medium skin tones seeking to add warmth to their complexions will do the best with this one.

$60 at Dior

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35

Best matte finish: Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35

As far as our tester was concerned, this BB cream was just right—not too thick, not too sheer, and with a refined finish that wasn’t overly dewy.

$46 at Bobbi Brown

STYLECASTER | Best BB Creams | L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream

Best for oily skin: L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream

This BB cream is colorless until you blend it into skin, causing its pigment beads to burst (this is fun to watch!). If you have oily skin and can get past the beads’ initial grainy texture, you’ll love the way this primer-like balm gives a smooth, matte finish.

Selling Your Wedding Dress? Here’s What You Need to Know

Selling Your Wedding Dress? Here’s What You Need to Know

A bride wearing a wedding dress outside

Wedding dresses, wedding dresses, wedding dresses! Sometimes the search can take months. Then you find the perfect dress. It’s got the detail and neckline you so desperately wanted. So you buy it. You spend hundreds or thousands for that one beautiful moment when you walk down the aisle and everyone oohs and ahhs. Then suddenly, your moment is gone! The dress has served its purpose. So what do you do with it? There are many answers to this question. Some sell their dress or keep it for future children to wear. Some even trash the dress with paint or roll in the mud with it on (I’m not kidding). But, if you do decide to sell your dress, here are some things you might want to know about the process.

You Won’t Get All Your Money Back

When it comes to reselling any item of clothing, you have to lower your expectations a bit on what you’ll get back. Chances are you’re not getting the full amount you paid for it including fees and alterations especially. Once you’ve bought that dress and worn it, the dress is now used. It’s sort of like a car, once you drive it off the lot and drive it around its value depreciates. My advice here is really simple: don’t overlist. If you price the item too high you won’t get any money back because no one will buy it. They’ll see that the dress has a price tag similar to a new dress and click away from your listing.

Here’s the thing: people who are shopping for used wedding dresses don’t want to pay full price. If they did, they would just buy a new dress. Try to put yourself in the shoes of someone trying to find a good deal. Of course you want to price the dress so that you make a good deal yourself, just don’t go crazy with it.

The Better It Looks, the Better Response

If you take a low light picture of the dress hanging on your dirty closet door you might not get as much response as you could. With a better picture and more effort into making the dress look presentable you could get a lot more views and more potential buyers. If you were looking for a dress, would you jump on one that looked gross or would you purchase one that had lots of pictures and looked basically new.

If you’re absolutely not a talented photographer try this: hang your dress on a blank wall near a window. The pictures will turn out great because there is no clutter in the frame and the natural light from the window will make all the details easily visible. People want to know what kind of product they’d be getting if they bought your dress. Anticipate all of your potential buyer’s questions and answer all of them with lovely pictures and lots of description.

More Description

Speaking of descriptions, you should try to be as descriptive as you can about your dress listing. I’m serious, don’t leave anything out. Buyers want to know about every button and decorative stitch. Description is great for customers, but it’s also a good idea to help with visibility. A lot of sites use hashtags or your descriptions to group dress listings into search categories. The more you accurately describe your dress the more categories your dress will be listed under. This is good because it means more online traffic to your listing. If you get lots of people to look at your listing and you’ve taken great pictures of it, chances are someone will bite.

You Won’t Get It Back

Chances are you know this. Once you sell your dress, there’s no going back (at least with most sites). Spend time really deciding whether selling is the best option for you. You can always sell it later. They say within the first couple years your dress is worth the most because it’s still in fashion. But even this time frame gives you a moment to pause and really think about what you’re doing. Some keep their dresses because they want their future children to wear it and some just want to put it on occasionally and dance around in it. Whatever the reason, you might end up deciding to keep the dress. If you feel that you want to sell though, give the decision a few weeks and at the end of those weeks if you still are sure, then you’re probably good to go ahead and list!

Selling your wedding dress is big. Sometimes the money you gain from selling is even bigger. You may use it to fund part of your honeymoon or start in the process of buying a new house. Whatever your reasoning, take comfort in the fact that somewhere out there someone is marrying the love of their life and adding more beautiful memories to your dress.

Here Are 7 Fascinating Museums To Visit In Malaysia To Learn About Our Nation’s History

Here Are 7 Fascinating Museums To Visit In Malaysia To Learn About Our Nation’s History

Though I love to read Greek mythology and the British’s War Of Roses, I sometimes do wish to know about my own culture, and where I ‘came from’. Not literally, but you get what I mean. Malaysia is a country filled with stories and artefacts, so influenced by the various cultures that have passed through, settled down, or resulted from the true natives. It’s time to get cultured about our own culture with these unique museums:

1. Rainforest Discovery Centre

This discovery centre is a living museum of Borneo’s rain forest and is the perfect place to witness specimens in their natural habitats. It also acts as a reserve of sorts for much of Borneo’s unique wildlife with minor replanting and controlled climates, educating those who visit on the wide array of deep rain forest plants that usually take hours and expert eyes to spot in the wild. It is also a neighbour to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, whom they collaborate with in hopes to keep the remaining relevant tourist attracts well-looked after and funded.

2. Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia

Ever fascinated with Islamic Arts? This place houses the largest growing collection of Islamic art and artefacts from all around the world and is the best place to explore the Islamic culture within Southeast Asia, focusing mainly on China, India, and the Malay regions. It also has an extensive showcase of Islamic motifs throughout time and culture, from the religion’s roots in Persia and the Middle East to its status as modern Malaysia’s national religion.

3. Sarawak Natural History Museum

This museum started out as a passion project by a British naturalist, Alfred Wallace, to collect new wildlife specimens of the strange and yet largely unexplored island of Borneo. It then turned into Sarawak’s oldest museum, growing in showcases of the indigenous inhabitants from different tribes. This place is also one of the few businesses to endure extreme looting and damage during the Japanese occupation in WWII. But today, this museum remains one of the most beautiful examples of the 19th-century Victorian architecture in the state and hosts locally sources exhibits.

4. Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum

The Baba and Nyonya culture in Malaysia always fascinated me. This place details the history of the Chinese-Malay Uninion that formed the rich and unique Peranakan culture. It also works hard to preserve much of the 19th century Malay during which the Peranakan heritage thrived. What’s cooler? This museum is located in a pre-WWII clan house and stands out as one of the best-kept remnants of the old Malaya, delving into the lives of these interracial descendants.

5. Pinang Peranakan Mansion

This place details the diverse and distinct Penang communities in a refurbished mansion that once belonged to one of Penang’s richest Chinese clan. It found a new life as a home for the prevailing multiracial society in Malaya. The museum’s restored richness will give those who visit awareness into the impact of Chinese culture on the surrounding local population.

6. Petrosains

As a child, I loved Petrosains. It played a (small) part in the nerd that I am today. This Discovery Centre is the pride of PETRONAS and is a modern style museum dedicated to educating future generations on the science and industries of oil, gas and water works. This uniquely curated centre is full of interactive displays and is situated within one of KL’s best malls; The PETRONAS Twin Towers. So if you ever want to go there and nerd out, the rest of your family can just drop you off there whilst they shop, drink and drink extravagantly.

7. National Museum of Malaysia

Last but not least, is this famous museum which offers special regional collections with relics and archaeological finds dating back to the prehistoric eras. Discover Malaysian pre-culture witness the rise and decline of ancient maritime and agricultural kingdoms. It also features a collection of aboriginal produce in a separate building nearby, mainly from the rural regions of Peninsular Malaysia.

12 Celebrities You Probably Don’t Know Have Home Decor Lines

12 Celebrities You Probably Don’t Know Have Home Decor Lines

Raise your hand if you’re an HGTV junkie. Now, raise your other hand if you’re also a pop-culture fanatic. Both hands raised? Same. When you need a daily fix of both interior design and entertainment news, it’s impossible not to occasionally merge the two and wonder what your favorite stars’ home aesthetic must be like. Like, is it too late to reboot Cribs but make it more for grown-ups this go-round? ‘Cause that would be super.

Until then, we must resign ourselves to poring over celebrity homes on the pages of magazines or in the occasional video tour online. Plus, since most of us can’t afford to hire the stylists the stars do (or drop a cool grand on a throw pillow), we have to lean heavily on our creativity if we want to emulate their enviable interior design.

But praise be, some celebrities have decided to do us all a solid and launch their own home lines. So, if you’re in search of a little star style for your own abode, take note of the following famous “designers.”

5 Things To Focus On When You Want To Feel Good

5 Things To Focus On When You Want To Feel Good

5 Things To Focus On When You Want To Feel Good

Life is busy. And we all tend to embrace that. We see the idea of being busy or being stressed as a sign as success. However, when you’re overworked, you won’t always feel good. And this can then become a big problem. You often forget to take care of yourself, and that only ever adds to how you’re feeling. So, you may find that you’re much better off if you’re able to focus on feeling good. But to do this, you have to make the conscious decision to change things. You have to stop living on autopilot and making the same decisions over and over. Instead, you need to choose to feel good. And here are five things that are going to help you to do exactly that.

  1. Skin Health

The first thing that you should turn your attention to is your skin health. And this is a biggie. Because if you want to be able to really feel your best, you often want to look it too. If there’s one thing that makes the biggest difference to your overall appearance, it’s your skin. So, you’ll want to make sure that you’re working with the best products and the best procedures like CLDerm.com offer. That way, you will get your skin to the standard that you want it to be.

  1. Energy Levels

Next up, you’re then going to want to think about how you physically feel. Because the chances are, your energy levels just aren’t where they need to be. And that’s okay, because you can turn things around. To really boost your energy levels, you need to approach the task from three angles. You need to eat well and nourish your body, you need to exercise and boost your vitality, and you need to get a good night’s sleep. When you work on all three, your energy levels can only ever increase.

  1. Being Presentable

If you don’t look your best, you won’t feel it. So it’s often important to take pride in your appearance. Everything from getting your eyebrows under control to having a manicure can really help you here. When you look much more presentable, you’ll often feel it too.

  1. Positivity

Next up, you need to make sure that you’re being as possible as possible. When you focus on the bad things in life, and you choose to be negative, you will never feel good. Instead, when you focus on the good, you’re grateful, and you choose to be positive, you will always feel good. No matter what life throws at you!

  1. Being Your Best Self

Finally, you’re going to want to make sure that you can become your best self. When you’re able to really home in on who you are and live your best life as Bakadesuyo.com shows, you will always feel good. So don’t dwell on the past, don’t be busy just to look successful, and don’t make decisions about your own life to please others. Just focus on being the very best version of yourself and you’ll always feel good.
