Director Matt Reeves had a vision for “The Batman” that incorporated Kurt Cobain’s emo-inspired ethos from early on in the writing process. Reeves sought to explore a different version of Bruce Wayne, one traumatized by tragedy and who became a recluse. Cobain’s influence is evident in the use of “Something In The Way” throughout the film and in Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Wayne. Despite mixed reactions to the film, Reeves’ approach to the character and use of Cobain’s imagery added a fresh angle to the beloved superhero.
