“What is the importance of educating young people?”

For many women, the pre-Roe v. Wade era was characterized by severe limitations on legal reproductive rights, which forced them to resort to unsafe and illegal abortions when faced with unwanted pregnancies, putting their lives at risk. On the other hand, some women grew up in an America where abortion was legal and reproductive rights were protected until last year’s Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which eliminated the constitutional right to abortion and restricted access for millions of people. It is crucial that younger generations do not become complacent as women’s rights are being stripped away through a staggering number of state laws restricting access to abortion and federal court decisions on drugs like mifepristone. The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is committed to advocating for women’s reproductive rights, protecting their ability to make informed choices about their bodies and lives. It encourages education, raising awareness, and taking action against harmful restrictions on reproductive rights to ensure access to safe and legal abortion. The NCJW works in partnership with Thrive New Jersey, a coalition that promotes reproductive health to pass federal legislation that protects and expands access to abortion care. On International Day of Action for Women’s Health, May 28, NCJW encourages everyone to use their voice to fight for women’s reproductive freedom and take action to ensure their rights are protected.
